Our online engineering programs come with all the benefits of an on-campus experience at a world-class university.
Excellence in Engineering
When you study at NC State Engineering Online, you are part of the NC State College of Engineering, a national leader. Students in our distance programs meet the same rigorous standards as those in the classroom.
Our engineering faculty is outstanding. Sixteen of them are members of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and others have won acclaim as innovators from the White House, MIT Technology Review and the National Science Foundation. Those faculty work closely with NC State’s deep roster of government and industry partners, seeking practical solutions to global challenges.
As an online engineering student, you will also have access to resources to help you succeed, including world-class libraries, our Virtual Computing Lab, on-campus proctoring and NC State Bookstores.

A Record of Success
Engineering is an ever-changing field. Today’s advances will be yesterday’s news, faster than you think. The fundamentals you learned as an undergraduate or on the job site will always be relevant, but the technology and resources you use will change continuously. That is why lifelong learning is such a fundamental priority for engineers, and earning a master’s degree or professional certificate is the best way to stay ahead of the curve.
At NC State, we have a long record of success in engineering distance education — more than 40 years long. We are fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and we are authorized in every U.S. state for delivery of online degree programs.
A lot has changed since we started in 1978, with broadband connections replacing videocassette recorders and emerging fields replacing declining ones. What has not changed is the quality and integrity of the engineering education we offer.
