The Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Management helps practicing HRM specialists or other organization staff members moving into HRM to advance their knowledge and skills in the field. The Human Resource Management graduate program focuses upon the practice of human resource management in business, government, and not-for-profit organizations. Courses offer both concept and skill components designed to help students base practice on solid theoretical grounding. Courses are led by faculty members who have earned advanced graduate degrees and/or possess significant experience in the fields of business, organization behavior, and human resources. Marygrove's Master of Arts in Human Resource Management aligns with the recommended requirements for HR degree programs as outline by Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Program Requirements The Master of Arts degree consists of 12 (36 credit hours) courses. There are three required courses (9 credit hours): Business Ethics, Managerial Finance and the Seminar and Project (Capstone Course). The other nine courses (27 credit hours) are chosen from a variety of electives in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development classes. An Educational Leadership Masters Degree is a State Approved Administrative Certification Program that provides candidates with the knowledge, dispositions, and skills to manage and lead today’s schools. Courses are offered both on-line and on-campus. It prepares the educational leader to promote the success of all students by facilitating a vision of success that engages the school staff, families, and community members in research-based practices that lead to increased student achievement. The Educational Leadership Masters Degree program prepares administrators for the K-12 school principal, supervisory, and director opportunities. Candidates completing the program will be eligible for Administrative Certification K-12. Masters Degree in Educational Leadership program focuses on the principal as the instructional leader and the chief architect of change in the school. In addition to a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles of administrative and management theory and capacity building, students will be introduced to the concept of the principal as change agent working closely with teachers, parents, and community members to create a supportive environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. Marygrove College has been known for excellence in teaching since 1905 and was one of the first U.S. colleges to offer the convenience and flexibility of obtaining a master’s degree via distance learning. With over 28,000 graduates from the Master in the Art of Teaching (MAT) degree program since 1990, Marygrove has a history of serving K-12 teachers with a program that is relevant to today’s working educators, with outcomes that improve classroom practice and help graduates fulfill their career aspirations. Marygrove’s MAT degree provides teachers with the opportunity to link the latest developments in educational research to their own teaching practice. Student teaching requirements may be satisfied in on-the-job placements or during the summer semester to meet the needs of candidates who work full time during the school year. SPECIFIC PROGRAM INFORMATION Students in the Special Education program are prepared to utilize a variety of instructional approaches as well as demonstrate what they have learned in a number of ways. By experiencing a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies firsthand, candidates are prepared to model similar techniques in their own classrooms. Special education methods courses have strong practicum components involving candidates with students in K-12 classrooms throughout their educational program.
