Professional Responsibility This two-credit course teaches foreign lawyers the rules of Professional Responsibility, including state and ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and leading federal and state case law on the subject. The course will delve into the history, goals, structure, values, rules, and responsibilities of the United States legal profession and its members.This course is an examination of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct from two main perspectives: the obligation of the legal profession to society and the obligation of the lawyer to the client and the court. Advertising by lawyers, solicitation of clients,specialization, conflicts of interest, competence, and legal malpractice are covered. The course will cover the California Rules of Professional Conduct and the California Business and Professions Code. The course is taught in an entirely asynchronous, online format. [-]

PROGRAM COURSES: Coastal Law's LL.M. in General Law Studies is an online program open to anyone with a law degree, including international and U.S. attorneys. This program provides an overview of U.S. law and the U.S. legal system. It meets the curricular requirements for the Washington State Bar Exam. Students in this program enjoy the flexibility of taking electives and obtaining "specialization" in one of several concentrations such as Logistics and Transportation, Law Practice Technology, and Business Law. Students can complete the program in as little as one year or take up to twenty-four months. The next start date for the Summer 2017 term is May 10, 2017. This online program consists of 26 credit hours. Thirteen credits of courses are required. They include: Professional Responsibility (2 credits); Legal Research and Writing (3 credits); Civil Procedure (3 credits); Constitutional Law (3 credits); and Introduction to U.S. Law and Legal System (2 credits). In addition to the above required courses, students may choose to take 13 credits of online elective courses from offerings in the U.S. Law LL.M. program and the Logistics and Transportation program. Select online JD courses are also available to General Law Studies LL.M. students. Some of the elective courses include: Real Property; Criminal Law and Procedure; Evidence; Business Organizations; International Business Transactions; U.S. Immigration Law; Administrative Law for Transportation Professionals: Adjudication and Judicial Review; Employment Law for Transportation Professionals; Customs Regulation; and Transportation Insurance. Using the latest virtual classroom technology, students can listen to pre-recorded lectures at their convenience. Students also have the opportunity to join distinguished U.S. law professors in live, interactive review sessions. [+]

Florida Coastal School of Law (Coastal Law) was the first U.S. law school to offer the LL.M. Masters of U.S. Law for International Lawyers degree entirely online. Using the latest virtual classroom technology, students can listen to pre-recorded lectures at their convenience. Students also have the opportunity to join distinguished U.S. law professors in live, interactive review sessions. All students have access to the Desire2Learn online learning management platform, where they can view reading materials, take practice quizzes, watch podcasts, and interact with their professors and classmates in discussion boards. Upon enrollment, students are provided with access to premier online legal research databases, including LexisNexis and Westlaw, as well as the Coastal Law Library electronic database. LL.M. students are also able to join student organizations and participate in on-campus student and alumni events, including networking activities and law symposia. They are invited to participate in the annual Florida Coastal School of Law graduation ceremony in Jacksonville, Florida each May. Although we welcome the opportunity for our U.S. Law LL.M. students to visit our campus, they are not required to do so. Courses in either the 24-credit LL.M. program or the 12-credit Certificate Program include practical, “hands-on” instruction in the following areas: global risk compliance, contracting skills (both domestic and international), personnel matters and labor relations, international trade and business transactions, fines and penalties, transportation insurance, maritime law, and trucking, railroad, and aviation liability and litigation. Coastal Law offers the only LL.M. degree in Logistics and Transportation in the U.S. Courses in either the 24-credit LL.M. program or the 12-credit Certificate Program include practical, “hands-on” instruction in the following areas: global risk compliance, contracting skills (both domestic and international), personnel matters and labor relations, international trade and business transactions, fines and penalties, transportation insurance, maritime law, and trucking, railroad, and aviation liability and litigation. Law school graduates are required to complete 24 credits in order to obtain a Master of Law (LL.M.) degree or 12 credits in order to obtain a Certificate in Logistics and Transportation Law. Non-lawyers may enroll in the program and obtain a Certificate in Logistics and Transportation Regulation after completing twelve credits. Each academic year, there are five eight-week terms. Each term has seven weeks of classes and one week for the preparation of final assignments.
