Dulles University

Introduction

Vision Statement Dulles University was established in 2010 and draws its inspiration from the life-long contributions of John Foster Dulles, US statesman and visionary. His influence in designing and negotiating international agreements with governments around the globe had a major impact on the emergence of democracy and freedom of the peoples of the world. His accomplishments included serving as a Counsel of the U.S. delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. He received prominence as an international lawyer and also at various congresses in the interwar years. Notably, he was involved with the American Commission to Negotiate Peace Berlin Debt Conferences, and was special advisor at the Council of Foreign Ministers meetings in London, Moscow and Paris. He served as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly (1945-49), and this was followed by his negotiation of a peace treaty with Japan in 1951. In 1951, President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Dulles as Secretary of State, and in 1954 on behalf of the United States he helped to organize The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) which included signatories from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, France, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines. Dulles’ humanitarian contributions included being a tenure board chairman of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace as trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation and also as a founding member of the Council of Foreign Relations, among many other achievements. Dulles University finds inspiration in John Foster Dulles’ strong stand on international cooperation and excellence in negotiating fair and balanced agreements as a testimony to the importance of education and preparation of individuals for a fulfilling life.
