Global Food Security and Nutrition (Online Learning) MSc, PgDip (ICL), PgCert (ICL), PgProfDev is concerned with the availability, access, and utilisation of safe, nutritious and sustainable food for all, especially vulnerable groups within society. The challenges related to food are not only the existence of approximately 795 million undernourished people in the world (Food and Agricultural Organization) but also the increasing presence of diet-related, non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes and heart disease).

The Food Safety (Online Learning) MSc, PgDip (ICL), PgCert (ICL), PgProfDev Based in the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS), the MSc is uniquely positioned to draw expertise from the world-class staff based in the vet school, Roslin Institute and the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security. Globally, poor food safety affects 600 million people and results in 420,000 deaths in a year (World Health Organisation report; Estimates of the global burden of foodborne diseases, 2015).

The demand for professionals with expertise in food safety science is growing rapidly. The Online MS in Food Safety program provides working professionals with core curriculum featuring multi-disciplinary sciences while also including food law components. Elective choices offer students flexibility to tailor their program to meet their interests and career goals. Additionally, students complete a non-thesis applied project that connects to the work they do daily. The programs courses are immediately applicable to students' current positions while, at the same time, preparing them for future leadership roles within food regulation and the industry. Additionally, students use elements such as course discussions and activities that encourage professional networking and peer-to-peer learning that helps bridge the siloed nature of their specialist roles as they work with colleagues across roles in labs, processing plants, fieldwork, and markets.
