Introduction
Prepare for excellence in your new role as a school or clinical mental health counselor. Winthrop offers an online Master of Education in Counseling and Development degree program, empowering you to learn when and where it's best for you.
Experienced faculty place a heavy emphasis on interaction with their students, and fostering collaboration among them. They have a strong commitment to understanding common developmental themes occurring throughout a person's life.
In Winthrop's M.Ed. in Development and Counseling, you'll start to work with clients during your very first practicum — much earlier than you would in other programs. Through carefully guided supervision opportunities, you'll get the guidance and support needed to conduct evaluations, understand basic research, and excel in your clinical work. You'll participate in group discussions, case presentations, and peer feedback, learning from each other's experiences and perspectives.
You'll choose a concentration that aligns with your career goals, either School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health. Over the course of two years, two practicums, and two internships, you'll get the education and experience you need to take the National Counselor Exam (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Exam (NCMHCE) and practice as a professional counselor.
