Introduction
What is the University of Fashion?
The University of Fashion works very differently than most fashion design schools. We don’t charge a separate tuition fee for each individual class you take. Instead, we give you 24/7, on-demand access to all of our many hundreds of full-length video lessons for a low yearly subscription fee.
UoF’s lessons are taught exclusively by fashion school professors and industry professionals, never by amateurs. You’ll see the exact same lectures and "how-to" demonstrations taught by the best fashion schools, but without rigid class times at inconvenient locations. Instead, you decide what, when and where you want to learn.
The University of Fashion offers lessons in all the major fashion disciplines: draping, pattern making, CAD pattern making, accessories, sewing, fashion art, knits, business, product development, lectures, CAD fashion art, childrenswear and more.
Most schools charge a big tuition fee to teach a single fashion subject in a particular fashion discipline, like sewing or pattern making. At the University of Fashion, you will pay a lot less to access every fashion subject in every discipline!

Lessons for every Skill Level
Beginner
Begin with our “Introduction to Knit Fabrics” and “Knit Fabric Principles” lessons first. You will learn about knit structure, stretch ratio and how to choose the best-knit fabric for a particular design. Then apply this knowledge and create your own set of knit slopers for different knit stretch ratios. Complete your knit studies by learning how to create a hand-knit poncho scarf and a knit sweater.
Intermediate
If you already have some experience with knits, check out our Knit Stretch Reduction lessons.
What you can learn
Knit Stretch Reductions – Skirt Slopers
Learn how to take your straight skirt sloper and convert it into a series of knit slopers for the various knit stretch categories. We will teach you how to create a Stable Knit sloper first and then how to convert it for a Moderate Stretch, 2-Way Stretch, Super Stretch and Ribbed Knit stretch fabric. This lesson builds upon our knit lectures series: Intro to Knit Fabrics and Knit Fabric Principles.
Other Knit Lessons
By referencing your Torso Knit Calculations Form, from our lesson on how to Convert a Torso Sloper to a Stable Knit Torso Sloper, we will help make this lesson a breeze.
Add to your knit library by learning how to create a knit sleeve and pant blocks so that you can design all types of knit garments, no matter which stretches fabric you choose.
The University of Fashion offers many lessons on knits. Check them out by clicking the Lessons tab on our homepage at UniversityofFashion.com.
