Introduction
Do you like writing and languages? Do you also have an interest in other fields such as science, business or the humanities and social sciences? Have you thought about a career in translation, writing, interpreting or terminology? Whether you are already studying at the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) or want to change your profession, our bachelor's degree in translation is for you!
The School of Translation welcomes students who have completed a university year (U1 or equivalent). Many of them already have a job and wish to reorient their careers towards translation. A bachelor's degree specializing in translation opens several doors: those of translation, of course, but also those of revision, terminology, interpretation, writing and communication. The translation community is dynamic; we learn something new every day!
duration
4-year full-time program. Leads to obtaining a bachelor's degree in translation.
Program overview
This program provides both the knowledge and the experience necessary to reach the language community: translators, terminologists and interpreters. The courses, on site and via the Internet, cover the major fields of knowledge - law, science, medicine, literature, advertising, etc. - and other aspects of the profession such as IT, ethics and interpersonal relations. The course is mainly focused on translating from English to French, without being limited to it. Great importance is given to practical courses (laboratories and internships), directly inspired by the world of work, which simulate real situations, including the simultaneous management of several files and deadlines.
Topics covered during the training:
- Legal, literary, biomedical, commercial translation
- General culture
- Professional writing
- Revision
- Advertising adaptation
The school has two admissions: one in September for all programs and one in January for university programs only. However, between May 1, 2022 and July 1, 2022, Canadians will still be able to register for the start of the September re-entry, while internationals will have to wait until the next re-entry, either in January 2023 or September 2023, according to their program.
Additional information
The bachelor's degree in translation is fully achievable over the Internet, if desired.
Other avenues of translation exist with USB:
Certificate in Translation
The Université de Saint-Boniface also offers a certificate program in Internet translation (30 credits) which allows students to acquire general knowledge of translation. All courses passed in the certificate can be credited towards obtaining the baccalaureate.
Accelerated baccalaureate
Holders of a post-secondary diploma also have the option of enrolling in the accelerated program (60 or 90 credits).
The bachelor's degree in translation can be done entirely over the Internet, if desired, which offers considerable flexibility!
