Introduction
As the world increasingly recognizes the crucial role of the ocean in our lives, it has become essential for scientific and socio-economic stakeholders to collaborate effectively. The MSc MARRES program was designed in response to the evolving job market driven by the rise of Blue Growth worldwide.
The Blue Managers track is a one-year master’s program offering a unique learning experience in marine science and management. It is open to English-speaking candidates with at least three years of professional experience in a related field or a master’s degree in any discipline, who seek to transition into marine conservation or marine resource innovation.

Admissions
Curriculum
Starting in September, students acquire crucial knowledge and skills through common core modules covering ecology, sustainable development, law, and numerical tools. Following this foundation, they receive specialized training in managing marine conservation and human impact, or innovating with marine resources. This training generally occurs in very small groups to ensure personalized attention and deeper learning. Finally, students apply their new knowledge in a professional project, serving as a pivotal tool for launching their new career in the Ocean sector.

Semester 1
The semester 1 corresponds to a set of common core modules where all the students will discover what is the Blue Growth, build a background in ecology and law of the Sea, improve their management skills, and develop their own professional project.
Blue Sustainable Development [6 ECTS]
This course explores how marine science and socio-economy may combine for the development of communities. It introduces the economics of the ocean and provides basis on Environment Economics and Ecosystem Services with real case studies.
Introduction to General & Marine Ecology [6 ECTS]
This module introduces the basic elements of oceanography, covering oceanic history, modern techniques, and geological and physico-chemical principles, alongside ecological concepts starting with terrestrial ecosystems.
Marine Resource & Environmental Law [6 ECTS]
This module introduces the main lines of the law of the sea and marine resources at French, European and international levels. It provides an understanding of how the different actors can combine their actions at sea, and what can and cannot be done in relation to marine resources.
Transferable Skills [6 ECTS]
SKILLS equips students with a set of tools in Information Systems (R, GIS), Personal Development (project management, career development, presentation coaching) and Social Science (citizen science, social surveys, indigenous & local knowledge, public communication, ethics).
1 options [6 ECTS]
- Environmental Quality & Impact Asssessment
- Ocean Remote Sensing & Artificial Intelligence
Semester 2
In Semester 2, students receive specialized training in one of two areas: managing marine conservation and human impact, or innovating with marine resources. At the same time, they expand their knowledge in biological oceanography, marine biodiversity, and marine ecology, with a focus on ecosystem processes and the impacts of climate change [6 ECTS]. From March onwards, students are fully dedicated to their professional project [12 ECTS] , allowing them to apply their acquired skills and knowledge to real-world challenges and prepare for their future careers.
Conservation & Human Impact Management specialization [12 ECTS]
In this specialization, students learn to manage and protect marine areas by integrating scientific and socio-economic perspectives.
Marine Resource Innovation specialization [12 ECTS]
This specialization focuses on the Blue Economy, exploring the untapped potential of marine resources, from tourism to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
