Introduction
The research thesis of this PhD should investigate the reasons why modern society relies on stable and readily available energy supplies. Renewable energy is an increasingly important component of energy sources. The research should cover energy conversion, use and storage of renewable technologies such as wind, solar, biomass, fuel cells and hybrid systems. Thermodynamics is also the basis for the modelling of renewable energy systems. The candidate, in this research thesis, should also investigate the environmental consequences of energy conversion and how renewable energy can reduce air pollution and the global climate change that is causing so much concern in governments and in the future of new generations.
