PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAvMan) provides you with essential knowledge in business and resource management with specific reference to aviation. Special emphasis is placed on the discussion of key concepts and issues in management, human factors and technology and their application to aviation.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Each paper is allocated a value of 15 credits, which gives an indication of the total time that you needed to complete the assessment requirement of about minimum 10 hours of study a week per paper. The papers are divided into 3 levels-100, 200 and 300 level papers (100-level being the easiest, 300-level being the most difficult).

There are 3 semesters a year and you can take a maximum of 4 papers in semester 1 and 2 and a maximum of 2 papers for semester 3. The actual time taken to complete the degree depends on how many papers you take per semester.

Each paper is identified by a 6-number reference such as 190.216. The 1st 3 digits (190) refer to the department within the University that teaches the paper, in this case, 190 is the School of Aviation. The last 3 numbers (216) indicate the level of the paper and its number within the department. For example, 1st year (100-level papers) have numbers like 190.109, 2nd year (200-level papers) have numbers like 190.216, and 3rd year (300-level papers) have numbers like 190.313.

Course Requirements

The course of study consists of 360 credits (24 papers with a value of 15 credits each). This comprises 10 compulsory papers, 8 elective aviation papers and 6 more papers from either the School of Aviation or College of Business electives.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Academic Requirements

You must possess 1 of the following:

• A minimum of 2 H2 passes and the 3rd pass at H1 or H2 level, plus at least an E Grade in N-level/O-level Mathematics or Additional Mathematics;
• Pre-2006: GCE A-levels with 3 passes and a minimum of 1 at C Grade;
• Advanced level examinations of any of the UK examining boards. All advanced level passes must be gained at the same sitting;
• A Diploma from a recognised institution; or
• An equivalent international qualification (e.g. Baccalaureate)

English Language Requirements

You must possess 1 of the following:

• Minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 and above;
• Minimum C6 grade for GCE O-level English language;
• Minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 (with no band lower than 5.5); or
• An equivalent qualification.

Note: With the exception of the GCE O-level results, all other results dated more than 2 years prior to the date of application will not be accepted.

CROSS CREDITS

Massey University may consider some professional qualifications as the equivalent of selected papers for the BAvMan. The number and level of cross credits to be awarded will be determined after application. The cross credits can be used to meet the prescribed 360 credits needed for the attainment of the BAvMan, subject to the terms and conditions prescribed for successful completion of the entire programme.

The maximum number of cross credits that can be awarded for prior learning is 120 credits (8 papers). Generally, professional pilots and air traffic controllers and those with a diploma from a recognised institution can get up to 120 credits of cross credits. All other aviation qualifications and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
