Online Master in Fintech and Financial Innovation
The Master in FinTech and Financial Innovation was born as a result of the union between the extensive experience in training and research, in the field of technology, which characterizes the UPC, backed by the recognition and accreditations it has, both nationally and international; and, the experience in online training, with a technological and business focus, from OBS .
Throughout the Master, students will see different business, financial and technological tools, while developing the necessary skills in identifying opportunities for disruption in the financial sector. All this, les / lasr will provide the basis to launch new Fintech companies, as well as to take advantage of new technologies aimed at improving the financial services of existing companies.
In the Master, students will delve into three large blocks:
- Block I. Transformation and digital disruption in Banking.
- Block II Technology at the Service of the Financial Sector.
- Block III Business

Overall objective
The general objective of this master's degree is to provide students with those key knowledge about technology and finance, as well as helping them develop the necessary skills, in order to reach the profile of professional demanded in the market.
Specific objectives
The curriculum of the Master in FinTech and Financial Innovation is designed to achieve the following specific objectives:
- Offer students a global vision of the impact of new technologies in the financial sector.
- Provide the necessary technical knowledge to carry out disruptive projects in the financial sector.

Block I. Transformation and digital disruption in Banking
Fintech Leveling Course
In parallel to module 1, students start the FinTech and Financial Innovation program with this leveling course that provides the basic technical knowledge of Fintech. In this course, students will find material resources that will allow them to delve into different topics necessary for the follow-up of the course. In this course, they will perform test-type exams that will serve as a guide for the evaluation of their knowledge and will be evaluated at the end of it.
The topics to be addressed are:
- Digital Transformation in Financial Services.
- Fintech essentials
- Technology applied in Fintech.
Introduction to Fintech: an integral vision
The objective of this module is to identify the main areas in which Fintech is having a disruptive effect, as well as determine which are the relevant new players in this financial ecosystem and their impact on the industry. Special emphasis will also be placed on business opportunities and market trends:
- Digital transformation and disruption in financial services: what a bank is and how it is transforming.
- The impact of Fintech on the Financial Sector: why and when the Fintech are born.
- Markets and services offered by new technology-based financial services companies. Ecosystem and innovation of the Fintech sector, with introduction to Regtech and Insurtech, as well as the impact of regulation.
- Practical applications of new technologies. What is blockchain and Smart Contract.
Technological Foundations and Markets
The objective of this module is to provide students with the fundamentals on the basic technologies that support Fintech initiatives applied in the five areas detailed below:
- Neo and challenger Banks, aggregators and comparators PFM.
- Transactionality services and payment methods: digitalization, mobility and omnichannel.
- Financing services: lending marketplaces and platform crowdfunding.
- Investment services: trading platforms, copyinvesting, theft / quant advising, crowdfunding and marketplaces.
- Provision of infrastructure and systems.
Block II Technology at the service of the Financial Sector
Infrastructure and Technology
The objective of this module is to offer a holistic and conceptual vision of the different technologies that make possible the support of the services to the financial sector, from the generic ones, based on telecommunications and information technology (ICT, Information and Communications Technology), to those of development and operation in Internet environments.
The global vision, provided in this module, will allow the student to develop in a technological environment, thanks to the knowledge they will acquire on management, as well as on the main technologies and conceptual models. Specifically some of the topics that will be discussed are:
- From Flash to Javascript.
- ICT, Telecommunications and Telematics.
- Front-office: programming languages and web development environments.
- Back-office: programming languages and models and development environments in servers and databases.
- IaaS / SaaS / PaaS infrastructure in cloud computing environments.
- Dynamization of Webs and the influence of FaceBook, Twitter and Google.
Bitcoin and Blockchain: Cryptography, Security and Digital Identity
The objective of this module is to introduce the key cryptography and security concepts in the development of any service related to process digitalization. The topics covered in this are:
- Blockchain platforms. Bitcoin and where Fintech apps are generated.
- Elements of Information Theory, Encryption and Cryptography applied to the financial sector.
- Symmetric encryption: notions of security, elementary constructions, DES, AES, cryptanalysis, modes of operation.
- Asymmetric cryptography: Diffie-Hellman protocol, encryption and signature.
- Advanced protocols: challenge-response protocols, zero disclosure.
- Digital identity: identification and authentication, biometrics.
- Introduction to cybersecurity: cybersecurity risks that the digital transformation of the financial system entails, identifying the types of adversaries, attacks and prevention systems.
Data (I): Big Data, Analytics and AI
The objective of this module is to introduce the fundamentals of technologies related to Big Data, especially artificial intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, and their applications in the financial world:
- Introduction to Machine Learning.
- Unsupervised learning.

Data (II): Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The objective of this module is to provide the basis for Deep Learning and the creation of neural networks to successfully lead Machine Learning projects. In this module, topics such as:
- Deep Learning concept. Functioning.
- Code development and algorithms. Neural Networks Network Configuration Convolutional neural networks. LSTM.
- Areas of application in Finance.
Crypto: DLT and Smart Contract deepening
The objective of this module is to deepen the concepts of DLT and Smart Contract, which is why the following topics will be addressed in this one:
- Distributed accounting technology.
- Decentralized applications (DAPP).
- Decentralized organizations (DAO).
- Operation and functionality of the network.
- Cryptocurrency operation.
Block III Business
UX: Fundamentals of user experience and customer journey
This module introduces the concepts of Experience and User Interface (UX and UI), and Customer Journey, key in the process of incorporation and differentiation of Fintech companies in the market. The topics that will be addressed in this module are:
- Description of UX and UI.
- Customer Journey description, accessibility and usability.
- Research techniques in UX and information visualization.
- Interaction design: web and mobile UX.
Practical exercises will be carried out throughout the module.
Business Models: Business Model Generation (BMG) and Lean / Launchpad methodologies.
This module will deepen the different business models and key methodologies in these new companies whose focus is finance and technology. The topics that will be addressed are:
- Identification of markets, opportunities and threats.
- The business model and the value proposition.
- "Lean Startup" methodology.
Financing and investors
Throughout this module, the following topics will be deepened:
- What is a startup and how is it financed?
- Techniques and methodologies for obtaining third party financing (from seed capital, through angel investing, venture capital, private equity, to IPO / IPO).
- The capital market for startups Fintech: state of the art and quantification.
- The big rounds of current startup financing: Chip - Mexico and Bnext in Spain.
Master's final project
During the Final Master Project (PFM), the student will work hand in hand with a real company in the development of a project. This will have the option to do it for your own company or choose between the options proposed by Three Points.

Throughout the master's degree, the student can complement the modules studied with two workshops with a more practical approach, divided into: a technological workshop and a business workshop. These workshops are:

This workshop offers a theoretical-practical vision of the application of artificial intelligence in the financial sector. This complements module 7. Data (I): Big Data, Analytics and AI.
Business Workshop
Workshop. Law applied to Fintech
This workshop complements Module 1. Introduction to Fintech, and aims to offer a deeper insight into the different regulatory frameworks of Fintech that are currently being developed. Some of the issues to be addressed are: regulatory sandboxes, Latam regulatory framework and Europe regulatory framework.
