This postgraduate qualification combines the skills of critical thinking, analysis and communication required by a senior manager, with academic scrutiny and an appreciation of the important strategic and technological issues in today’s maritime industry.

Studies are completed via part-time distance learning, and students are required to complete five postgraduate level modules. Module topics include marine science and engineering management; protecting the marine environment; offshore renewable energy; coastal zone management and maritime policy and strategy. Students are required to complete a research module in order to achieve their Masters degree.

There are three entry points per year; January, May and September

The MLA College Sustainable Maritime Operations (SMO) programme will enhance your management skills in analysis, evaluation, presentation and writing at a higher level. When this is combined with an understanding gained in the operation, governance and technology of the maritime world, you will be fully equipped to progress to a more advanced career level. This course is particularly suitable for middle to senior management grades within organisations in the areas of ship management, port operations, marine renewables, offshore oil & gas, engineering and defence. It can also be considered for those with a relevant background wishing to move into the maritime industries. The SMO programme is available to study at undergraduate Bachelors (BSc) or postgraduate Masters (MSc) levels, and is delivered by fully tutor-supported, technology enhanced distance learning. Studied part-time, this course can fit flexibly around your work and life commitments.
