Introduction

This programme is aimed at those working in or considering a career in business. The programme builds on learning obtained in the Higher Certificate in Business (Level 6 NFQ) and focuses on the practical skills and knowledge required to enhance performance in a business environment. Students will acquire the broad business skills that will enable them to obtain employment across a wide range of business environments at administrative or junior management entry level.

The programme is delivered online over one year. It consists of seven modules – four in semester one and three in semester two (including a dissertation). Modules are delivered online by professionally qualified and experienced business lecturers and cover the following business functions:

  • People Management
  • Business Information Systems
  • Financial Management and Control
  • Management
  • Economics

Students will also have the opportunity to complete a minor dissertation which is preceded by research methods seminars.

The programme includes a significant amount of ongoing on-line assessment in each of the modules and final written examinations which will be held in the Institute (or an alternative approved examination centre) at the end of each semester.

Entry Requirements

There is no attendance requirement for this programme. Students will receive a schedule for live online lectures in advance of the course start date (live lecturers will be scheduled for weeknights only, Mon-Thurs).

Applicants should hold a Level 6 Higher Certificate (previously called National Certificate) in Business (or cognate area). Applicants with other qualifications and/or with significant relevant business experience may also be considered through IT Sligo’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

All lectures, tutorials and practical work are delivered through English. It is vitally important that students who are not native English speakers have the required standard on entry to ensure they gain maximum value from their time at IT Sligo. The required minimum proficiency score in English required for entry to IT Sligo is 5.5 IELTS for undergraduate degrees.

Career Opportunities
