Introduction
In the hybrid Master of Social Work in Direct Practice program at Carlow University, students gain the confidence needed to function as highly capable social work professionals. In the Direct Practice specialization, faculty emphasize the pervasiveness of trauma and familiarize learners with the principles of trauma-informed approaches to caring for individuals and families, as well as prevention and intervention methods. Graduates work as clinical social workers in a variety of settings.
Field placement and seminars give learners hands-on experience in addition to the knowledge base gained from expert instructors. Students are encouraged to conduct collaborative research projects with faculty or assist with research projects outside of class. In the final semester, students benefit from LSW exam preparation.
The program offers an advanced standing track for those who already have a BSW, allowing them to complete the degree in as few as 18 months. Faculty works with students one-on-one to tailor field placement experiences to their career goals. Learners graduate prepared to sit for licensure.
