Carey Theological College
Introduction
CAREY THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE
Canada's Online Evangelical Seminary
Carey Theological College provides theological education through accredited programs ranging from diploma to doctoral degrees; equip the local church with online resources, workshops, seminars, retreats, and conferences; and disciple students of the University of British Columbia through our unique Christian community and residence program.
At Carey Theological College, our goal is to offer discipleship for every season of life. Carey believes that discipleship should be practically achievable, personal and accessible to everyone. We recognize that the world needs Christian leaders influencing our global communities to participate in what God is already doing in the world. Carey meets this need by focusing on two key areas:
Forming Pastors: All of Carey’s graduate ministry courses and accredited programs are offered online so our students can study and develop their faith wherever and whenever. With our unique financial model, our graduates experience the highest standards of academic excellence that effectively prepares them for ministry with little to no debt. Our interactive learning platform encourages active learning and deep engagement from students and instructors alike.
Discipling UBC Students: Carey’s residence is a safe home for undergraduates seeking to strengthen their faith in our Christian community during their studies at UBC. We charge affordable rates for a private room with bathroom and meals plus our unique student discipleship experience. A chaplain leads these students in Bible study, mentorship, spiritual retreats, and social activities. As they graduate from UBC, they become Christian leaders in their chosen professions.
CAREY ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
CAREY offers nine distinct graduate programs. Each program is designed to achieve different objectives, fit different interests and progress your journey in faith.

WHY CHOOSE CAREY?
Today’s Christian ministry has seen a decline in qualified and capable leaders. But Carey doesn’t believe that God has stopped calling women and men into ministry. Seminary is often far from home, and potential students would have to consider uprooting their lives to have access to a school that offers theological education. On top of that, graduate studies can be costly. Students who graduate with debt are often limited in where and how they can serve while they are paying off their debt.
HOW IS CAREY ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM OF ACCESSIBLE THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION?
MODULAR PROGRAM PATHWAYS | ONLINE LEARNING MODEL | TUITION & FINANCIAL AID |
MODULAR PROGRAM PATHWAYS
Our programs are built on a modular credit model in which one level can build on another, enabling the learner to progress towards a higher degree at their own pace. This model gives our students the flexibility to stack their choice of foundational courses, program requirement courses and elective courses to earn a diploma or to prepare a pathway to a higher academic degree.
All of Carey’s foundational courses run once a year, while our program requirement and elective courses rotate every 3-4 years based on instructor availability. This means that you can register for courses anytime during the year and your program pathway will still be on track. In general, it is wise to plan to take required courses early in the program to leave greatest flexibility for electives and specialization further along.

ONLINE LEARNING MODEL
Carey’s affiliation with the University of British Columbia allows us to pursue innovations in Learning Technologies, and to ensure students have streamlined access to various platforms to improve their learning experience.
ZOOM Zoom is a video/audio web-conferencing and collaboration tool that allows for real-time meetings and discussions with your fellow students and faculty alike. Rather than being a platform solely for lectures, we use Zoom to facilitate peer-to-peer learning experiences and community growth. |
POPULI Populi is one of the central platforms you will use for registration, payment, community engagement, and even courses. Populi can easily handle videos, group discussions, file sharing, and integrations with many populi LTIs (Learning Tools Operability) available today. |
EBSCO To help you gain access to resources for courses and research, Carey has an ever growing digital library through our EBSCO collection. We believe students should not miss out on their learning because they cannot afford books, or have difficulty finding a copy; we’re dedicated to making all necessary resources for classes as close to 100% free for any students in our programs. |
