Curriculum
This chemistry course gives an in-depth understanding of several essential areas of chemistry and covers several AS-level chapters, giving you the confidence to pass your exam. First, it explores Group 2 elements, also known as alkaline earth metals. You explore their properties, reactivity, and applications in various fields. We then focus on Group 17, which comprises the Halogens. We examine their characteristics, chemical behaviour and role in different reactions. The study of halogens provides insights into their use as oxidizing agents and their significance in organic synthesis.
We then cover the principles of acidity and basicity, including the Arrhenius, Bronsted-Lowry, and Lewis definitions. Learn to identify acids and bases, predict reaction outcomes and apply acid-base concepts in chemical equilibrium calculations. Equilibrium and solubility are other crucial aspects. We guide you through the equilibrium principles, including Le Chatelier's principle and equilibrium constants and how temperature and concentration affect solubility. We explain the Nernst Equation, which relates the electrode potential to the concentration of species involved in a redox reaction. You will calculate cell potentials and understand the factors that influence electrochemical reactions.
Lastly, the course covers electrolysis, using an electric current to drive non-spontaneous chemical reactions. Investigate the principles behind electrolysis, its applications in industry, and the importance of electrochemical processes in everyday life. Enrol today!
