Interior & Furniture Design Lab
Our design school in Florence brings students into direct contact with the real practice of interior design by offering them the opportunity to participate in ongoing projects within our firm. Starting from the client, we aim to understand their needs and attempt to discover meaning and intent through practice. In order to understand the full scope of a project, and deepen the collaboration of designer and client, emphasis is put on consultation, analysis, planning, and site visits. Projects may include, but not limited to, residential, retail, exhibition, or restaurant
By gaining an intimate knowledge of the client, and by realizing the spirit of the space ( Genius Loci), we can begin to elaborate on the three factors of composition:
The aim is to unite these factors, to be presented in a final project.
Sketching and Technical Drawing
An Architect or Designer is, first of all, a draughtsman and we will help you to improve your skills with sketching sessions in different places such as Piazza Santa Croce, Forte Belvedere, Cantine Antinori, Cappella Pazzi, Santo Spirito Church, Piazza Santissima Annunziata, Palazzo Strozzi and other sites in various cities. In some cases, we will work on projects in these famous sites, after an introduction to its history spirit. In addition, technical drawings will also be practiced in the studio
History of Art and History of Design
Whoever studies abroad in Italy will be introduced to the spirit of art from the Florentine Renaissance and the spread of its philosophy during the following centuries, especially in spatial and volumetric concepts.
We will experience all this during our visits to Florence and other Italian cities.
The history of design course looks at the development of furniture and interior design over the centuries with special regard to the last sixty years and most particularly at the work of famous designers like Philippe Starck, Mario Bellini, Achille Castiglioni, Enzo Mari, Alvar Aalto, Jean Nuovel, Giugiaro, etc.
The interest of the course is to explore, through research, reading, and writing, how furniture and interior design unite with the dynamics of artistic expression.
Technologies of Construction and site renovations
Controlling costs is a fundamental practice as we must operate within the framework of our client's budget. Having knowledge of techniques, materials, and new technologies in design help to ensure the control of suppliers and costs in renovations and are introduced in this subject
Thanks to green design and sustainable technology we can obtain more effective use of economic resources while safeguarding the environment.
For the above, the documents we use are the Technical specification, Bill of Quantities, and the Contracts with clients and suppliers.
IT Design Programs
We introduce our students and guide them to use the basic computer programs in design( Autocad/Sketchup or others ). In successive years more complex programs or techniques for virtual representation in 2d and 3d formats verify the communication of work accurately. There is a constant dialog between the hand drawing and computer rendering to allow for a complete expression of the designer's vision.
We begin from the analysis and concept development, through technical design, to the completion of detailed drawings.
