Transportation Systems

Learn from faculty with expertise ranging from traditional traffic engineering to the latest in connected systems with a transportation engineering degree from the University of Maryland.

Modeled after the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's nationally acclaimed transportation engineering masters degree, students in this online program will develop robust knowledge of transportation planning, travel behavior, traffic operations, safety, and design and tackle critical topics including system optimization, transportation economics and policy, infrastructure vulnerability and protection, emissions estimation, and sustainability analysis.

Admissions Requirements

Requirements specific to the transportation systems engineering program include a bachelor's degree, GPA of 3.0 or better, in engineering or science from an accredited institution.

Completed applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Degree Requirements

Master of Engineering: 30 Credits or 10 Courses

Students pursuing this option must complete six core courses and four electives from those listed above. There is no research or thesis required for this degree.

Tuition and Fees

Students in this program pay a special tuition rate, which does not differ between residents and non-residents of Maryland. This rate is not fully covered by graduate assistantships, fellowships or the tuition remission. Additional graduate student fees are charged. Tuition and fees are subject to change.

This program does not provide departmental assistantships or fellowships. Loans, work-study and need-based grants for citizens and permanent residents with demonstrated financial need may submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by appropriate FAFSA deadlines.
