Introduction
"Since NYU Steinhardt’s founding in 1890, we have upheld our mission to advance creativity, innovation, and knowledge as it intersects with education, human development, and culture. We educate undergraduate and graduate students for social change with programs in education, media, health, the arts, and applied psychology. Committed to public service, we provide our students with learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom, and our faculty members are distinguished leaders in their respective fields.
Offered through the Department of Applied Psychology, NYU Steinhardt’s online master of arts program in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling@NYU, prepares aspiring school counselors to help children and families lead healthy and meaningful lives. Graduates are collaborative leaders and advocates in elementary, middle, and high schools across the country.
You will experience a combination of real-world training, interactive online classes, and course work that can be completed based on your schedule. Courses feature principles of social justice and equity, facilitating an in-depth understanding of pre-K-12 students from a range of cultural backgrounds.
To gain in-field training, you will complete internship experiences at schools in or near your community, a counseling lab, and a practicum experience. These hands-on experiences will offer you the opportunity to hone and enhance the skills required to be an effective school counselor. The practicum and internships will take place at sites approved by NYU, and you will work under the supervision of a certified school counselor.
Counseling@NYU features:
- Live, online classes with an average class size of 15 students
- A virtual campus that allows students to connect with professors and fellow classmates
