Structure and Content
The Online Executive DBA is Action Research focused and knowledge creation orientated rather than a taught qualification. The online modules and optional inspirational workshops by professors from leading business schools are delivered in a number of phases (see the enclosed programme outline). Since the programme is designed for busy executives, candidates can enrol at any time and will embark on guided self-study and orientation. Once Phase One is completed candidates will be able to explore and identify their business-driven research topic, in co-operation with a designated dissertation supervisor.
The first two phases of the programme focus on providing the candidates with the capabilities and skills required to undertake a comprehensive research project using Acton Research approaches, combined with critical thinking, reflection and solutions-testing. During the conferences, the participants are exposed to cutting-edge minds in business leadership and management. The focus is on key emerging, current thinking and trends in management in the digital age, impacting on the strategic development, sustainability and competitiveness of organisations and industries in the future. Using newly acquired insights and combining it with their research skills, candidates are then required to identify a complex leadership/management issue in their working or new-value-creating environment.
This will lead to the development and submission of a detailed research proposal to be formally approved before candidates may embark on their main research dissertation. This proposal must be submitted within Phase Two, with the guidance of a designated supervisor appointed by BSN.
Internet-based with optional half yearly conferences
The attendance of the three conferences is recommended, but optional since all conference topics will also be covered by guidance and feedback sessions online.
