The University of Florida’s online master’s degree in microbiology and cell science with a concentration in medical microbiology and biochemistry prepares students for a future in medical and science-based fields by equipping them with an in-depth knowledge of microbial genetics, virology, astrobiology, environmental microbiology, immunology, medical microbiology and biotechnology.
This 30-credit online master’s degree program can help students launch or advance careers in pharmaceutical companies, government organizations, agriculture and other diverse fields, or can help prepare students for medical, dental or veterinary school.
This entirely online program can be completed in as little as one year and is self-paced, allowing you to work while earning your degree. Classes are offered year-round and the GRE is not required for admission.
The cost per credit hour is $535, plus fees regardless of where students live.
Master’s degree students are eligible for federal financial aid. Students seeking federal student loans must complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using UF’s Federal School Code (001535).

- A bachelor’s degree
- An upper-division GPA of 3.0
- Official transcripts from every college or university attended
- $30 application fee
- Preferred undergraduate courses in biochemistry, organic chemistry, microbiology, biology or general chemistry
Students without a preferred science background are welcome to apply and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for admission. Relevant professional experience may substitute for academic coursework.
