General

Program Description

With this program you will be able to respond to the multifaceted reality of the design world.

In today's society the role of the graphic designer is a fundamental part in the visual communication of a company that, following a project and creative method, is able to cover each of the small details of said communication. The designer is the irreplaceable part in the good work of communication and the necessary contribution of added value to the product and business service.

In order to reach that point, it must be formed in a gradual way, starting with studying the basic fundamentals of graphic design, and then directing its training to the knowledge of the different disciplines that complete the world of communication in its graphic facet. And only having acquired the necessary training and knowledge in the different working environments, we can ensure a total assimilation of what graphic design means.

In this course the aim is to enter the student in the world of graphic design by proposing a linear course starting with the most basic concepts of design (typography, graphic sign, rhetoric) and continuing by the study of each of the disciplines on Which establish the bases of the work world related to the design: Branding, Editorial Design, Packaging Design, Digital Design and Signage Design or Wayfinding.

Giving voice to renowned professionals of the sector, each of them will focus on the specialization that best dominates in the professional field, making this course a program that combines in a balanced way the theoretical part and the practical part of this fascinating world of graphic communication .

GOALS

The main objectives of this program are:

  • To assimilate the historical, theoretical and practical knowledge for the correct understanding of the graphic project from the creation of concepts, through its formalization to the production of the same.
  • Provide the designer with the necessary tools to handle the various design tasks with guarantee of success.
  • Inculcate in the student the ability to develop strategy, creativity and ability to find original solutions, more innovative and functional.
  • Master the language used in the medium and the different disciplines, through a professional environment.
  • To get the designer to understand the different realities of the graphic design project according to the different disciplines that, together, form the same news.
  • Present the main professionals in the world of design, both nationally and internationally, to know what they do and what are project methodologies as far as possible.
  • To learn each of the methodologies and competences used in the different tasks of the graphic design processes, in their different phases and fields of action.
  • Dominate stages of production and be able to develop good planning as well as to calculate fees and budgets.

CURRICULUM

The Master in Graphic Design is structured from the following thematic areas that are integrated in a transversal project that is developed over 10 subjects:

Basic Fundamentals of Graphic Design

Study of the different elements that make up the graphic design; Color, shape and hierarchies. Confrontation between form and function. Creation and development of concepts and formalization of results. Strategy and implementation of graphic communication.

Typography

Typography is the main tool that nourishes the designer. A good use of the letter and the word will open the doors to good design. It will study the typographic sign, the anatomy of the letter as well as the different historical classifications based on it. Evolution of typography, architecture and hierarchies.

Photography

Framed in the disciplines associated with visual creation, photography is part of our daily life and, therefore, becomes an indispensable factor when communicating visually. A good art direction and correct choice of photography in our project will make it earn thousands of integers when it is exposed.

Identity Design

The different visual codes that give identity to the marks will be the object of our study. We will work to be able to recognize them and transfer them to the creation of new corporate projects visible in different areas: private, public, small or large, local or global.

Editorial Design

When discussing the editorial project, we will try to define each of the decisions to be taken in order to carry out a coherent work in the search of editorial graphic solutions. Choice of formats, typography, grid, photography, illustration, etc. We will see which actors are involved in the execution of the editorial project, what are their functions and how to manage the time factors and responsibilities within the team.

Graphic Project Management

The practice of Graphic Design often implies leaving aside all that is presupposed to a company, this being the great structural error of design studies today. The objective of the subject is to equip the student with the necessary knowledge to carry out a project on the basis of the definition of the assignment, planning, resource management, risk prevention and calculation of budgets.

Packaging

In the current market we are surrounded by packaged products. And designing the packaging of these products has to be done following a series of imperatives that will make it fully functional and optimal for use, consumption and visualization. The requirements, as well as trends and the study of usability will be what will make our pack design meets the objective of being the best possible packaging for our products.

Digital design

Today, the digital world is almost the past in the constant evolution of content consumption. Therefore, a graphic design specialist can not turn his back on the digital world. In this course we will cover topics such as user experience, usability and interface design. We will try to turn the analogical thinking of most of us to start thinking about digital if the order requires it. From the development of the strategy to the design of the interface.

Signage design and wayfinding

Walking and not getting lost has, in some places, become almost impossible to carry out. In this module we will give due importance to a discipline of design whose main motivation is to get us from one place to another without losing our way, and also do it in the fastest and most enjoyable way possible. It is about wayfinding or signaling spaces.

Production processes

Graphic production at present has undergone numerous changes due to the evolution of technology. But in essence, the philosophy is the same. In this module we will discuss issues related to the graphic arts in terms of reproduction and printing of the graphic product, with what supports and characteristics of each one can count, what colors and inks we can use, learn to close print originals, etc., as well As well as how to carry out a budget calculation as accurately as possible; Tools and methods of optimization of costs, basic rules to arrive at the good understanding with our clients and suppliers.

Master Thesis

In addition to exceeding the credits of the previous modules, all students will have to develop an integral Master Project, consisting of a personal project of integral graphic design based on the contents taught in the course.

Requirements

Recommended profile

This Master is aimed at people who meet the following profile:

  • Graduates in Communication and Advertising
  • Fine Arts graduates
  • Graduates in Journalism
  • Graduates in Advertising and Public Relations
  • Graduates in Audiovisual Communication

In cases where the student proves previous higher education to a process of accreditation of university degree, the Academic Committee will evaluate the candidate's CV and portfolio and completed the curriculum, which must maintain a reasonable equivalence with existing studies degree the same area.

Degree

People who pass the program evaluation will obtain a double degree: Course at ESdesign - Superior School of Design Barcelona Course at the International University of Valencia, who credited them as professionals in the specialty studied.
