The university offers this postgraduate diploma/ degree programme (which is fully accreditated by the NCHE) in ICTs for Development for those already working in the development sector who wish to upgrade their ICT skills, ICT managers who wish to update their skills and knowledge in development, or fresh graduates on the academic track. ICTs have roles to play in many areas: democracy, banking, retailing, education, marketing, gender, business, public health, human rights, environment, governance, agriculture, the media, and health. Innovative solutions to some development problems are emerging at a very fast rate. The main purpose of this programme is to train innovative ICT leaders with a thorough knowledge of the theories and methods of ICTs for development who will think outside the box to maximize the use of ICTs in particular contexts. All these courses may also be taken as stand-alone courses as part of our Continuous Professional Development programme. Admission criteria: prospective students must meet the admission criteria as set for each programme of study in the University. The University shall follow the admission criteria as set by the National Council of Higher Education. All completed application forms should be sent to the University Secretary at the Virtual University of Uganda. For entry to the postgraduate diploma in ICTs for Development, applicants should possess a good second-class degree from a recognized institution and achieved a pass mark in the Graduate Admission Test. Ideally, applicants should have some job-related experience in their field of study. All students should have an adequate knowledge of computers and access to a reliable Internet connection, preferably owning a laptop and an Internet USB dongle. All students must have registered initially by the date stipulated in the university calendar. In order to access course materials online, students must pay the full fee for the course on the date specified. All fees are to be paid directly to the University's bank account. Bank slips or bank drafts will be acknowledged when registering for each module in a programme.Cost & FeesApplication and Administration Fee EA Nationals: UGX 200,000 Non-EA Nationals: US$ 100 This non-refundable fee is paid upon application and covers the application form, admission test, exam fees, transcripts, and certificates. Tuition Fees EA Nationals: UGX 750,000 per course; Non-EA Nationals: US$ 425 per course Dissertation Fee EA Nationals: UGX 1.500,000 Non-EA Nationals: US$ 650Entry RequirementsIn order to be eligible for admission to VUU, you should have obtained a primary degree with at least a Second Class Honours. You will need at least an Upper Second Class in order to be considered for a scholarship. Please note that a limited number of scholarship is available for each programme of study. You should also have at least five years professional experience in a relevant field, be highly computer literate and have access to a computer and a reliable internet connection. We recommend that you have your own laptop and subscribe to a USB dongle-based internet connection.
