Facilities management provides an organisation with many support services at an appropriate cost in order to support core business activity. Managers must demonstrate their skills in effective service provision and monitoring, and understand business strategy, cost control, people management and property-related issues.

You will enhance your ability to identify and evaluate appropriate decision-making strategies, and you will develop your research capability and cognitive skills, enabling you to analyse and resolve problems in your profession.

A number of assignments will involve practical work and case studies. These will provide opportunities to address situations and issues highly relevant to your workplace which you can then apply to meet your organisation's operational needs.

Entry requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the facilities management work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional. All applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements.

IELTS:

IELTS 6.0 with no skills below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.

MATURE APPLICANTS

Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example, completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

Please note that all applicants to our University are required to meet our standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent, variations to this will be listed on the individual course entry requirements.

Environment & Maintenance Management

Buildings have a great impact on the environment. Students learn about controlling the internal and external building environmental effects, and strategies for the efficient use buildings.

Commercial & Financial Management

Equips you with various tools, techniques and theories to assist you in senior management roles and enables you to direct corporate policies in property and services related areas.

Managing the Property Asset

Evaluates strategies for corporate real estate management by considering and evaluating designs, occupation and disposal. You will learn how to undertake financial appraisals, manage space and utilise property as an asset.

Facilities Information & Operations Management

You will develop an in-depth understanding of the scope of facilities operations management within an organisation, as well as its contribution to the core business.

Facilities Management Strategy & Procurement

Evaluates the role of facilities in support of core business operations and develop provision by developing an awareness of the range of options and processes appropriate to their effective procurement.

Project Management

Examines the role of a project manager in the coordination of assorted inputs of professional skills necessitated by the design and production of complex projects to satisfy client objectives.

Masters Final Project / Dissertation & Research Skills

You will develop a structured dissertation on a topic of relevance to the course, enhancing your skills in analysis, reflection, application, organisation and planning.

Fees & funding

UK & EU 2018/19

Studying part-time gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace. Because of this, our tuition fees are calculated using credit points. Each module you study has a credit point value. Most taught postgraduate modules have a credit point value of 20. The tuition fee for students entering in in 2018/19 on this course is £661 for each 20 credit point module. For modules with a different credit point value their cost can be calculated by multiplying the credit value of the module by the cost per credit point of £33.05. The amount you will pay may increase each year in line with inflation.

Library

Tens of thousands of our Library's digital resources, including ebooks, ejournals and databases, can be accessed online at a time and place to suit you, and the Library is open 24/7 if you would like to visit. Our offsite team also provide specialist support for distance learning students.

Dedicated Support Team

Just because you aren't learning on campus doesn't mean you'll have to cope on your own - you'll have the support of a personal tutor along with the University's Student Hub and Wellbeing Centre. They are on hand to offer you advice about everything from academic issues to stress and anxiety.

Virtual Learning Environment
