Improve your operations by integrating the IoT into your processes.

The Internet of Things: Business Implications and Opportunities online short course from MIT Sloan approaches IoT not as a technology, but as a mechanism for business transformation. It aims to help people envision and lead IoT-based improvements in their operations, not just understand the technical elements.

The goal is to demystify the technology so that managers can work towards achieving the strategic advantage made possible by IoT.

On completion of this course, you’ll walk away with:

  • The confidence to lead IoT-based transformations and implement strategies for increased productivity.
  • A roadmap for the application of IoT technologies in your company.
  • Recognition of your understanding of IoT for your future-focused business in the form of a certificate of completion from the MIT Sloan School of Management — one of the world’s leading business schools.

Course structure

The MIT Sloan School of Management is collaborating with GetSmarter, a brand of 2U, Inc., to create a new class of learning experience — one that is immersive, collaborative, and accessible. Take advantage of the part-time learning model (6-8 hours per week) and the support of a Head Learning Facilitator on the Online Learning Campus as you earn a certificate of completion from MIT Sloan.

This six-week online program will provide you with an introduction to the necessary technologies, skill components, and enablers and constraints for using IoT in business. It also explains the four key elements of leadership capability that make transformation possible through IoT. Real-world case studies, senior executive interviews, self-assessments, and practical assignments will guide you as you create a personal roadmap for IoT implementation.

Modules are released weekly, allowing a flexible but structured approach to learning.

Topics covered in the program include:

  • Demystifying the Internet Of Things
  • Leading IoT: Levels Of Mastery
  • Leadership Capabilities
  • An Overview of IoT Technologies
  • Aligning IoT and Strategy
  • Creating an IoT Roadmap for the Future

Who would benefit?

This course is designed for business leaders who want to know how to capitalize on the opportunities IoT provides. If you’re involved in operations, this program will help you harness IoT to improve your production strategy. The program is also aimed at those in more technical positions who would like to take on a leadership or managerial role in implementing an effective business strategy for their organization.
