Program Description

Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Workplace Innovation focuses on the application of learning in the areas of personal creativity, tools that support the creative process, linking innovation to organizational strategy, and cultivating an innovative organizational culture.

Participants can expect to investigate strategies and tools required to innovate and lead both strategic and cultural change in existing organizations. Over the duration of the program, students will explore creativity, risk-taking, modeling and feedback, while discovering the students’ own creativity, and their capacity to encourage creativity in others.

The program will also examine collaborative approaches to the creative processes, decision making, and conflict resolution while establishing the connections between innovation and organizational strategy development.

Who It's For

The Graduate Certificate in Workplace Innovation is for professionals in an organizational capacity who have the recognized business need to drive creativity and innovation and those who have a desire to become a consultant that leads innovation initiatives with, and for, organizations.

Courses

ITAI: Introduction to Academic Integrity

The Introduction to Academic Integrity course illustrates academic integrity and plagiarism in real-life scenarios. A clear sense of academic honesty and responsibility is fundamental to good scholarship, and the integrity of university academic work and the degrees conferred by the university is dependent upon the honesty and soundness of the teacher-student learning relationship and of the evaluation process. Therefore, all students must understand the meaning and consequences of cheating, plagiarism, and other academic offenses. The Introduction to Academic Integrity course serves as a helpful, interactive companion to the academic integrity policy and procedures outlined in the Student Policies & Procedures, which contains the policies and procedures that guide academic life at Royal Roads and support our mission as a university.

WINV560: Cultivating Creative Confidence and Competence

Focuses on the individual’s role in workplace innovation. Explores key innovation skills such as problem-solving, risk-taking, communication and relationship building skills, and how individuals develop the confidence and competence to use those skills to innovate within organizations.

WINV685: Innovation Tools and Processes

Focuses on innovation at a team level and will include an exploration of tools and processes used in group settings. Considers topics such as interdisciplinary diversity, principles of innovation, design thinking, the use of artifacts, sketching, model making and prototyping, and group decision making and execution.

WINV690: Workplace Innovation: Strategy and Culture

Considers the need for embedding innovation in both strategy and culture within an organization. Identifies leadership practices necessary to encourage and support innovation. Students will examine models and tools for understanding how workplace culture can be measured and managed, alongside innovative approaches to strategy development.
