What is Global Freshman Direct? It is the Developing Academic and Numeracy Skills for University (DANSUS) module.
DANSUS is a 12-week online course that offers you a chance to get back in the game. Offered in your time zone, choose an intake start date to plan your GFC start (i.e. once you have successfully completed the DANSUS module). As well as offering you the chance to connect and work with students also completing the DANSUS program. With regular peer reviews, opportunities for feedback, and a dedicated tutor DANSUS gives you the skills and confidence to take on the next stage of your academic journey.
Once you’ve graduated from DANSUS, you can enter the Global Freshman Year program and complete both within 12 months if you are studying full-time. Putting you on track to begin 2nd year university in one of the growing number of member xx universities we’ve partnered with across the key destination countries.
The Global Freshman Direct aims to:
Equip you with the underlying academic and communication skills necessary for higher education study, including effective time management, note-taking, evaluation of sources of information and reading comprehension.
Introduce you to digital literacy skills, such as scholarship, information literacy, media literacy, communications and collaboration, career and identity management, and ICT literacy, to use technology, platforms and websites effectively for learning and assessment, including the use of programmes such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
Help you to understand how to work with academic integrity, improve their referencing practice and avoid plagiarism.
Help you demonstrate an understanding of values, ethics and the impact of these on collaborative working.
Develop the numeracy skills you need to undertake the statistical analysis required at Level 4, including basic numerical operations, calculations and the construction and use of appropriate graphical techniques to present simple data.
