The psychological component provides a solid introduction to developmental theories across the human lifespan including influences on childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. The practice component explores current social care practices, theoretical concepts, and approaches in a variety of diverse settings in Ireland. The course is designed primarily to meet the needs of employees of the industry that have practical experience in statutory, voluntary and private service and settings including independent and residential services for individuals with disabilities, residential and aftercare services for children, homeless services, services for older people and community support services. The aim of the Diploma is to educate reflective practitioners who can continue to learn and develop their professional knowledge, interpersonal skills and self-awareness appropriate for careers in social care.
