The MIT Sloan Digital Business Strategy: Harnessing Our Digital Future online short course explores how business models can be improved through transformative technology. The framework of the course is based on the book Machine, Platform, Crowd: Harnessing Our Digital Future written by MIT Sloan faculty and New York Times best-selling authors Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee. This allows you to learn from the knowledge and experience of these experts, as you create your own innovative business strategies.

On completion of this course, you’ll walk away with:

  • The knowledge to harness disruptive technologies in your organizational plans.
  • Insight into how an innovative digital business strategy could fit into your business model.
  • An understanding of the value of decentralized knowledge in gaining a competitive advantage.

Course structure

The MIT Sloan School of Management is collaborating with GetSmarter, a brand of 2U, Inc., to create a new class of learning experience — one that is immersive, collaborative, and accessible. Take advantage of the part-time learning model (5-8 hours per week) and the support of a Head Learning Facilitator on the Online Learning Campus, as you earn a certificate of completion from MIT Sloan.

This six-week program highlights an approach to a business strategy that attempts to find a balance between traditional methods and the use of innovative technology to improve operations. The main focus is the rebalancing of three key relationships: human minds and machines, physical products and digital platforms, and the core (centralized knowledge) and the crowd (decentralized knowledge). Through ongoing project submissions and guidance from faculty, you’ll uncover ways to relate these principles to your own business.

Modules are released weekly, allowing a flexible but structured approach to learning.
