Renewable Energy

Courses are individual classes that can be taken at universities, colleges, junior colleges, and trade schools worldwide. For even greater flexibility, many schools also offer online classes. Students can take individual classes or pursue degree programs.

In addition to learning about the major sustainable energy options, a program in renewable energy may also have a finance component. Students interested in the financial administration of renewable energy can learn about tariffs, economic calculations, and the monetary aspects of governmental support.

Education in the United Kingdom is a devolved matter with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having separate systems under different governments: the UK Government is responsible for England, and the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive are responsible for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.

Online Courses in Renewable Energy in United Kingdom. In recent decades there’s been increasing global concern about the sustainability of our use of fossil fuels and nuclear power, which has led to increased interest in more sustainable renewable energy sources. These ‘renewables’ have been utilised for centuries, in water mills, windmills and wood stoves, but in recent years we’ve developed the technology to utilise these natural power sources on a much larger scale. During this free online course, we’ll study renewable energy using the four Greek elements as our weekly themes: Earth – here we introduce the Earth’s renewable energy sources, most of which are derived from power delivered by the Sun. Air – here we look at wind power. Fire – here we focus on the direct power of the Sun. Water – here we look at hydropower. When you’ve completed this course you should have an improved understanding of how some key renewable energy technologies work and the contribution they might make to world needs. All Open University Science MOOCs presented on FutureLearn are produced with the kind support of Dangoor Education. What topics will you cover? Basic energy principles and terminology Definitions of renewable energy sources Solar radiation & solar thermal energy technologies Wind resources & wind energy technologies Hydro resources and hydropower technologies What will you achieve? Explain some basic energy principles and terminology Apply the differences between primary, delivered and useful energy Describe the key role of solar energy as the source of most renewable... [-]

“Sustainable energy — energy that is accessible, cleaner and more efficient—powers opportunity. It grows economies. It lights up homes, schools and hospitals. It empowers women and local communities. And it paves a path out of poverty to greater prosperity for all.” UN Sustainable Energy for All Energy is the golden thread that connects economic growth, increased social equity, and an environment that allows the world to thrive. Development is not possible without energy, and sustainable development is not possible without sustainable energy. This online programme will give a comprehensive overview of renewable energy as a means to enable sustainable development at a global scale. It will present the case on how renewable energies represent at the same time an environmental necessity and an economic opportunity. The programme supports the UN Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4ALL), which aims to provide universal access to modern energy services; double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. The course aims to enhance the capacity of local decision makers, energy/sustainable development officers and other personnel to make an informed decision on which renewable energy technologies will meet their own needs or the needs of their countries, communities, villages or neighbourhoods. Through a discussion of key benefits and suitability for a range of applications, together with extensive case studies, the programme aims to provide an overview of clean, secure and sustainable technology options for the development and offer insights into the management of...
