Studied on an online, distance learning basis, this is an ideal way to gain an internationally recognized animal care qualification without attending College. This allows you to learn how to make a difference to the animals in your care. The course will be delivered in English and you will access your course materials via our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), allowing you to study at a time that suits you.
Throughout this online course, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills which you can then use to make a difference to the animals in your care. The units you will study are as below:
- Unit 201 â Maintain animal health and welfare
- Unit 202 â Undertake practical animal feeding
- Unit 203 â Maintain animal accommodation
- Unit 204 â Undertake work related experience
- Unit 205 â Understand the principles of animal biology
- Unit 206 â Principles and practices of animal behavior and handling
- Unit 210 â Introduction to animal breeds and grooming
You will complete written assignments which will be submitted by our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Practical assessments will be undertaken in your work placement.
To be able to study this course there are no set formal entry requirements, however, you must have a passion for animals and a good level of numeracy, literacy and ICT skills combined with a confirmed work placement (employed or voluntary). You will also need to ensure that you are up-to-date with any relevant vaccinations, please do check with your doctor for advice.
This course is delivered in English and therefore you need to ensure you have sufficient English reading and writing skills.
Due to the highly practical nature of working with animals whilst studying this course, you will need to complete at least 150 hours of work experience (a minimum of 3 hours per week) within an animal related environment. Whilst studying you will also be supported by our expert tutors who have supported students, from as far away as Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Japan!
Overall you will need to have completed 150 hours to achieve your qualification and there must be a suitable person (someone who has a minimum of 2 yearsâ experience in the industry) who is able to assess your practical assignments in your workplace.
This qualification is expected to take 12 months to complete and you are able to start it at any time of the year.
The total cost for this course is Â£1,308.
This can be paid before beginning the course or it can be paid monthly via our âPay As You Learn Schemeâ. This is a fee of Â£109 per month until you are certificated.
In addition to the above fee, you are also required to pay an Awarding Body Fee. This is Â£130.40* for City & Guilds registration and certification fees.
