If you are working in a supporting role in a veterinary environment then this course could be for you! You will study a variety of content to help you in your role of looking after animals effectively within a veterinary practice environment.

Studied by online distance learning this means that no college attendance is required. However, you will need to be working or volunteering in a veterinary practice for a minimum of 10 hours per week. The course will be delivered in English so you will also need to ensure you have a good level of understanding of the English language.


This qualification consists of three units:

  • Unit 201 – Principles and Practices of Animal Handling and Care in the Veterinary Environment. This covers the general care of animals within the veterinary practice such as safe handling, accommodation and feeding requirements
  • Unit 202 – Principles and Practices of Assisting with Veterinary Care in the Veterinary Environment. This covers various areas such as common terminology and anatomy and assisting with nursing care including surgical conditions and fluid therapy
  • Unit 203 – Principles and Practices of Administrative Duties in the Veterinary Care Environment. Within this unit, other useful skills are studied such as client communication, teamwork and reception skills in order to ensure that you can support the smooth running of a veterinary practice

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to be able to undertake this veterinary care qualification. However, you do need to be aware that all the course materials and assessments are delivered in English. This means that you need to be competent in reading, writing and speaking the English Language.

You are required to be working or volunteering in a veterinary practice to do this course for a minimum of 10 hours each week


If you are based outside of the UK the course fee for this qualification is £1,549. This can be paid before starting the course or it can be paid monthly via our ‘Pay As You Learn Scheme’. This is a fee of £129 per month until you complete the qualification and receive your certificate.

In addition to the above fee, you are also required to pay Awarding Body (registration and certification) fees of £214.20*.
