Building A Chord Vocabulary with Jody Fisher
Course Description This class addresses the needs of the student who has been playing for a while and wants to greatly expand their chord vocabulary. The class begins with the basics of harmony as applied to the guitar, such as quickly knowing all the notes on the fingerboard, major scale theory, and extensive trial work. After this information is absorbed, the topics expand to comping ideas along with formulas and fingerings for diatonic chords from major and minor 6th chords to major, minor and dominant 13th chords. Numerous examples are shown – some common, some unusual – with additional commentary about dealing with and changing physically challenging fingerings. Later in the class, other chord systems are discussed, such as building chords from triads, string transference, using common chord progressions to help upgrade your chord vocabulary.
