The MIT Sloan Blockchain Technologies: Business Innovation and Application online short course examines blockchain technology from a business perspective, as it draws on the work of leading MIT faculty and crypto-economics expert Professor Christian Catalini. You’ll gain a fundamental understanding of how blockchain technology works, as you discover its potential and limitations. Over the course of six weeks, you’ll also explore opportunities to apply it in the context of your own organization.
On completion of this course, you’ll walk away with:

Knowledge of two key costs significantly lowered by blockchain technology: the cost of verification and the cost of networking.

Course structure
The MIT Sloan School of Management is collaborating with GetSmarter, a brand of 2U, Inc., to create a new class of learning experience — one that is immersive, collaborative, and accessible. Take advantage of the part-time learning model (5-8 hours per week) and the support of a Head Learning Facilitator on the Online Learning Campus, as you earn a certificate of completion from MIT Sloan.
Through an engaging mix of resources, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how blockchain technology can facilitate a new kind of marketplace without traditional intermediaries. You’ll also explore the effects of blockchain technology on market power in digital platforms, privacy, and trust. Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your learnings and create a proposal for a blockchain-based solution to a problem your organization faces.
