Online Bachelors in Norway 2017. This Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Media - Animation provides a solid understanding of the animation industry. The main focus is to design, create and build characters for games, film and storytelling. Animation in storytelling and visual communication In recent decades, animation has become increasingly important in the entertainment and creative industries. Due to the high demand for applications, commercials, films, special effects, health, engineering and military technologies, criminal justice and video games, animation is no longer considered something exclusively for entertainment. This degree provides students with a working knowledge that combines a theoretical and practical approach in fields such as interaction and interface design, game design, communication and marketing skills and software proficiency. You will also have the required skills to assess dynamic and creative environments in different cultures. Students will learn the importance of animation in storytelling and visual communication for different fields. This degree enables you to design interfaces and interaction for digital systems and/or create animations and motion graphics for games and films. You will also be able to develop 3D models and animations vital for simulations used in maintenance and training. You can work in character design, game world environments and in animations. Noroff animation students are introduced to tools, concepts and the basic building blocks for developing an animation concept from initial design to finished product. By combining traditional design skills and creative processes with cutting-edge technology, this program focuses on enhancing your creative skills. Students will learn about the motion capture process as well as how to work with motion capture data to drive a character. Tools and techniques acquired in the degree can be applied to multiple areas, from interface and interaction design, to digital games and animation experiences that enhance community based learning and development. The Bachelor of Interactive Media Animation is not only about making characters move and act, but it is also about creating animation for an audience and exploring the various and important aspects of designing and building animation concepts. Students will learn how to create memorable characters, starting with an idea and later on creating a character in three dimensions. The main focus is to design, build and create characters for games, film and storytelling. Year 1 During the first year students explore the foundation of visual culture, from traditional arts to interactive experiences, and from animation and motion graphics to board and digital games history. In this year we build key soft skills, including creative and interactive writing and scripting, communication literacy and software competence. Essential research skills will be addressed, which are the first steps to developing a creative methodology and the ability to identify certified information. The degree includes the core concepts of animation design and development. Students will be introduced to cutting edge software programs and technologies. Year 2 In the second year at Noroff University College, Interactive Media - Animation degree students explore in more depth the different methods and processes used developing animation concepts and techniques. Students focus on understanding the fundamentals of character motion and locomotion. The classes will introduce students to the concepts needed for creating authentic motion. Students will develop observational skills and understanding of human anatomy, enabling them to add physicality when animating human characters. The second year also covers the process of character design in the entertainment field. Starting with exploring ideas, understanding and experimenting clarity and shape variation - as well as many other important principles and elements of design - students will design and create their own characters ready to be animated. The main focus this year is to achieve necessary knowledge and skills to be able to create believable character animation for storytelling and visual communication. Year 3 The final year introduces advanced concepts such as pantomime and acting performance. Students learn in depth the art of pantomime acting in the process of storytelling and learn the importance of staging their performance for best presentation to an audience. During the third year, students explore how to make a character seem alive, and how to craft believable performances. Students learn to use choreography to capture the audience's attention. During the final year of the degree students will be given the support to create a portfolio where they develop their final project for the degree. The final project is an opportunity to explore new trends in animation techniques with support from expert staff, and becoming a competent professional in their chosen area of expertise. Postgraduate education options Graduates from the Bachelor Interactive Media - Animation can go on to postgraduate education to study related art and design studies containing animation topics at masters and doctoral degrees. Graduates can also apply their skill sets in other industries requiring animations for simulation. Career options Competence and skills acquired from this degree provide the opportunity to develop a career in a wide range of industries. Animation, while a major part of the entertainment and the creative industries, is also in high demand in areas such as mobile applications, health systems, online learning, the oil, gas and engineering industries, training and simulations, and in military technologies. The creative industries include games, commercials, special effects, television productions and films. Admission requirements Three-year upper secondary education or a vocational education certificate. [-]
