Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature
The English Language and Literature program enables students to develop the critical skills needed for textual reading and analysis, as well as the practical skills required to understand and teach the world’s primary international language. The program covers a broad range of English-language texts, examining significant historical, philosophical, and cultural developments through the study of literature and linguistics, as well as providing the cognitive skills required to teach English as a foreign language.
All students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature must complete the following requirements:

The Interdisciplinary Academic Recognition and Information Agency of Greece (DOATAP–Hellenic NARIC) and the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities (ECPU) of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.
- To develop the student’s capacity to think, write and speak effectively and creatively in the English Language;
- To develop, through the study of literary texts and cultural theory, a deeper understanding of social, moral and ethical values, including the ability to negotiate between differing value systems.
- Reflect on students’ relationship to others and their responsibilities to community and society through a literary frame.
- To develop the student’s analytical, decision making and English communication competencies.
- To develop those qualities of self-reliance, responsibility, integrity, and self-awareness which will promote personal achievement and contribution to organizations;
- To build breadth of perspective through the general education requirements and provide sufficient specialization to meet basic professional and career requirements;
- To provide the student with the basic requirements for academic and/or career advancement.
- To equip students with wide competencies in writing, across a broad spectrum of career paths.
- To give the student every facility to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to analyze and appreciate texts in linguistic and literary terms;
- To give the student the opportunity to examine how language is acquired and how social and cultural attitudes are revealed in the ways English is spoken, written and used in society and literature;
- To understand the nature of social and cultural attitudes, explore their inter-relationship with language, and their expression in literary texts;
- To study the chronological and structural developments in English language and literature and apply this knowledge in critical analysis of texts;
- To develop research skills in order to critically analyze a range of English language and literature texts, both oral and written;
- To foster awareness of contemporary developments in writing, in English-speaking countries as well as internationally;
- To encourage comprehensive awareness of the social and intellectual contexts of English literature, both past and present;
- To introduce current debates about the significance of language and literature and their role in cultural and social life;
- To develop an ability to engage confidently in an imaginative, critical and open-minded understanding of a wide range of works and literature;
- To develop research, analytical, and linguistic skills both for study and later life.
- Acquire a working knowledge about and of the English language in its past, present, and future tendencies.
- Produce critical research essays that demonstrate broad experience with English language texts from a variety of literary traditions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of significant historical, philosophical, and cultural developments through the study of literature and linguistics.
- Apply in coursework those cognitive and practical skills required in careers such as teaching EFL, editing, and publishing.
- Produce sophisticated critical work on the social, psychological, and cultural dimensions of Linguistics.
- Demonstrate competence in critical and theoretical skills applicable to textual reading and analysis as the foundations for graduate study.
- Apply technological as well as critical and theoretical methodologies in the construction of a sound teaching approach.

- Undergraduate instruction and coursework in English
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination with a minimum score of 600 (paper-based total) or 250 (computer-based total)
- IELTS examination with a score of 7.0
- English language IGCSE O’ Level with grade of B or above
