Program Description

In hardly any area is the digitalization of society as direct as in communication with all its media facets. Accordingly, the job profiles in the media sector have changed completely. The creative preparation and transmission of information has always been the core task of media designers; Doing this successfully in the digital world requires numerous new skills. Web design, cross-media strategies, video editing and app development are equally important alongside the "classic" but no less important knowledge of typography and design, in printing technologies and communication theory. The bachelor's degree in media design provides you with in-depth knowledge in all areas of media design - print, online, mobile media, photo and video, infographic and presentation.

Create your own online portfolio while studying!
It is the most important self-marketing tool for designers: the portfolio. In the BA Media Design course, we offer you the opportunity to create a meaningful online portfolio during your studies.

How it works: As part of your studies, you develop digital projects and learn the most common approaches and forms of presentation in the field of media design. You complete the design modules with the documentation and presentation of your creative workpieces via a digital portfolio platform.

Use your design projects even after graduation for your application folder and give you a decisive advantage for your future career!

Course Overview

The course imparts technical methodological knowledge and creative representation techniques to you. You will test your acquired knowledge in practice. The focus is always on the aspects of finding ideas, the relationship between form and content and aspects of visual communication. Dealing with current software tools rounds off the whole.

Our bachelor's program is modular, which means that you study using subject areas that are divided into so-called "modules". Within these modules there is an introductory course and an in-depth course, which prepare you systematically for the completion of this module. Within the modules, you will receive ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System) for each successful completion, which document your performance. These ECTS points are internationally comparable and of course recognized.


In the fifth and sixth semester you choose your two specializations in the amount of 20 ECTS. To do this, you opt for at least one specialist specialization ("compulsory specializations") from the field of media design and at most one functional and industry specialization ("specialization in elections").

  • International marketing and branding

Accredited degree

All current courses at the IUBH are accredited by the FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation).
Accreditation is only granted if the content and structure of a study program meets all qualitative requirements.

Your future career in media design

Media designers can work in classic advertising or media agencies as well as in publishers or on television. In addition, they can plan and implement advertising campaigns in in-house advertising departments of larger companies.
