Professional DevelopmentThis module is designed to boost your personal and professional awareness, and help you develop strategies for the workplace. You will explore communication skills, learning styles, and problem-solving abilities.
Computer TechnologyYou’ll get an overview of system design, hardware, software, and the basics of networking. This module takes a practical look at the building and maintaining computer systems, and meeting the needs of users.
Website DesignDuring this module, you’ll discover the technologies and techniques that go into website creation. Learn about accessibility, usability, the principles of great design, and how to work with different browsers.
Information Systems in OrganisationsThis module looks at the ways you can collect data, determining what data you need, and what you want to get out of it to give your organisation the edge.
Database DesignLearn about ‘relational database design’ with this module, which covers how to build a smart database that is secure, robust and allows for easy access.
Software EngineeringYou’ll cover a variety of different programming and engineering approaches to help you determine what your customer needs, and how to develop software for them. Along the way, you’ll encounter the quality processes that ensure everything conforms to best practice.
Level 5
ProgrammingYou’ll become familiar with object-oriented systems, central to most programming languages, and get to grips with class design. Then using inheritance and aggregation techniques, test your skills by developing applications of your own.
Systems Analysis and Design Learn the skills of analysis and design techniques that will help determine who your customers are and what they need. You’ll use fact-finding methods such as focus groups, questionnaires and interviews, and look critically at systems and different lifecycle models.
Database Implementation You’ll expand your theoretical knowledge of relational databases and apply more practical skills. This module covers the design, programming and development of databases, and how to put them into practice in business.
Data Communications Once you’ve collected all your data and built an appropriate database for it, that information needs to be transported to where it needs to be. In this module, you’ll discover how data moves around a network.
Quality Systems in IT Quality standards are set by the International Standards Organisation (ISO). This module will explain the ISO codes important to the IT industry, how to deliver a gold standard of quality, and just what can go wrong.
Dynamic Website Development Keeping the user, and their needs at the core of this module, you’ll focus on more advanced tech and ideas, and how databases work with web-based systems. Using dynamic content, you’ll work towards building a server-side website.

Current Trends in Networking In this constantly evolving module, you’ll look at leading-edge technologies and their effects on people. You’ll evaluate whether new products improve upon the old ones, and assess the impact of innovation in the communications sector.
Management in IT You’ll discover what it takes to be a manager in the fields of IT and technology. This module looks at how you’d outsource, deal with contractors and consultants, manage your own department, and fit within a business, as you explore your next steps.
Computer Systems SecurityTaking a look at cybercrime and the law, you’ll learn about the weak spots that leave systems and individuals vulnerable to attack. This module will allow you to become familiar with cryptography, the basis of important computer security.
e-Commerce SystemsTaking an in-depth look at client-server computing, mark-up languages, client-side and server-side scripting, you’ll use this module to design and build your own e-commerce system.
Computing ProjectYou will have the opportunity to get to grips with an experiment, an investigation, or a practical piece of work for your last big project. You will be required to support your project with academic work and tech, and we’ll encourage you to gather your own data through surveys and interviews.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this course you must normally have:
Two subjects at GCE A-Level or equivalent, plus passes at grade C or above in three subjects at GCSE level or equivalent; OR
Completed a recognised Access Programme or equivalent.
For students whose prior learning was not taught in English: IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (no less than 5.5 in any element).
