Profile of the Programme:

The degree programme sets out to provide the student with a fundamental and broad understanding of the complexities of the tourism, leisure and events industry. Studying in a multi-cultural environment ensures that the student gains insight into issues, such as diversity and the interconnectivity of all aspects of the industry.

Objectives:

On completion of the programme the student should be able to:

  1. Collect and analyze data for the purpose of resolving issues directly related to TLE management;
  2. develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills;
  3. Confidently interact with others in a number of organizational settings;
  4. Communicate, both orally and in writing;
  5. Problem solving
  6. Effectively use resources in order to ‘learn how to learn.’

The TLE Management programme combines academic and vocational orientation on an equal basis as the students are closely involved with hands-on experience through their internship and academic studies. This involves practical operational courses i.e. Airline &Travel Operation, Introduction to Travel and Tourism, Ticketing and Computerized Reservations, Managerial and Academic development courses i.e. Destination &Visitor Management alongside a strategic appreciation of industry factors such as Tourism Planning & Development and Sustainable Tourism and Cruise Services & Management.

Career Prospects:

Our graduates are able to attain gainful employment in a variety of industry sectors, both locally and abroad. In fact, many of our students are currently employed in supervisory and managerial roles while pursuing their degree. Some of the areas of employment are:

Access to Further Studies:

Graduates of the programme can be accepted into Second Cycle degrees (Master’s Degree).

Graduation Requirements

The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements. A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the programme the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze a problem and develop a solution;
  2. Utilize academic methods (e.g. using referenced arguments);
  3. Identify and adjust to future trends including the impact of technology;
  4. Appraise and apply effective behavior and tools in a multi-social and multicultural environment taking into account the effect of social status and culture on the field;
  5. Determine effective approaches in an interdisciplinary context;
  6. Identify and use adequate tools, including appropriate software (i.e. market research, statistical analysis);
  7. Integrate a theoretical and applied perspective;
  8. Identify and use the functional areas of an organization and their relationships for effective overall organization function;
  9. Demonstrate the ability for lifelong learning and development at intellectual, personal and professional levels, i.e. how, when, where - new professional and personal development is needed (e.g. rhetoric, presentation, working in teams, personal management, keeping up to date);
  10. Differentiate details of business functions, as related to the field;
  11. Distinguish the role of internships;
  12. Appraise environmental impacts of business in the field;
