English Education (BA with Teaching Certification)

Accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Columbia College English Education Program equips students with the skills and the certifications necessary to teach anywhere in the United States, including the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Few degree programs offer more hands-on, relevant experience than Columbia College's English Education Program. By the time you graduate, you will have accumulated more than 500 hours of classroom experience in area schools.

BECOME AN EXPERT IN YOUR FIELD

Students will have the option to take a wide variety of courses, including African-American Literature, Young Adult Literature, Multicultural Literature, or Genre Studies, such as gothic literature or detective fiction.

English Education majors have attended the prestigious Summer Institute for Cultural and Literary Studies at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.

An English Education degree draws on a wide range of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, adolescent development, writing, and public speaking, in addition to teaching methods.

EXPERIENCE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Dr. Sandra Young and Dr. Allan Nail have more than 13 years of combined experience teaching at the middle and high school levels and another 16 years working with pre-service teachers. These educators love what they do and are committed to preparing students for successful educational careers.
