Fully accredited by the University of Hertfordshire and delivered to you online by the Interactive Design Institute, the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design course allows you the opportunity to study towards an internationally respected UK degree at times that suit you. Your subject specialist tutor will give you one-to-one tuition and will aid you in developing your 3D spatial design skills in order to create better environments for the people that use them. You will be given one-to-one tuition, guidance, and feedback in your own personal studio within IDI’s study website, IDI-Study, through a number of practical tasks. These include a strong focus on a technical drawing by hand and with CAD software. You will be taught through a combination of tuition, personal study, and through group work activities with your peers on the IDI forums. By the time you graduate you will be equipped with all the knowledge and skills you need to begin a career in the interior architecture industry.
Eligibility for student membership of BIID
As a student on the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design course, you will be eligible for student membership of the British Institute of Interior Designers (BIID). On achievement of your award from the University of Hertfordshire you will be able to join as an Associate Member on level 3 of the BIID Professional Pathway, a step towards becoming a BIID registered interior designer.
What Does the Course Involve?
As a student on the online BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design course, you will be required to complete three levels of study, each containing modules that will further your understanding of the interior architecture industry and the creative industries in general. Over the course of the BA (Hons) degree course you will:
- Be guided through activities that will develop a range of skills including the use of CAD, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to make 3D models
- Become fluent in architectural terminology and orthographic drawing techniques to prototype, test and present your designs professionally
- Further your understanding of how people occupy spaces to enable you to improve the environments which we inhabit
- Develop inventive approaches to spatial design and the transformation of existing spaces and catalog this in your portfolio with the advice of your tutor
Studying BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design online with IDI
Over the duration of the course, you will complete a number of assessments to strict deadlines which will focus on developing the skills required of you as detailed in the learning outcomes for each module. Other than the deadlines, you are free to work at times that suit you with no set times for tutorials, lectures or exams. Contact with your tutor is asynchronous and through IDI-Study you will receive and respond to comments, feedback and guidance as and when required. While your tutor and IDI support staff will be on hand to help, you will be required to show your ability to work independently to complete projects using the quality resources available to you on IDI-Study. Group discussions and activities will take place within the forums and you will be expected to regularly contribute to aid your learning and the learning of others.

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design Entry Requirements
For UK applicants, we require either 96 UCAS points from GCE A Levels (or equivalent), including art-related subjects, and English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above (grade C and D or above if prior to 2015), or a relevant level or equivalent skills and experience.
You will normally have completed a pre-degree course in a relevant subject, which may be a Foundation or equivalent course leading to a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or equivalent international qualification.
All applicants from non-majority English speaking countries need to provide proof of English language proficiency. One of the following qualifications (or equivalent) is required:
- GSCE English Language grade A-C
- IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band)
