The online BA (Hons) Illustration course is accredited by the University of Hertfordshire and is delivered to you fully online by the Interactive Design Institute (IDI). You will be guided through a series of practical illustration activities and projects and will be given the opportunity to experiment with new media and approaches to your work. Your tutor, who you will have one-to-one contact with for tuition, support and feedback, will encourage you to be as creative as you can in completing the learning outcomes for each of the course modules. By the time you graduate you will have developed skills in professional illustration work and be prepared for a career in the contemporary illustration industry.
What Does the Course Involve?
During this practical online illustration course, you will gain in depth knowledge of the creative industries as well as learn valuable skills that will improve your prospects of employment in a related career. Through independent study using the resources available to you on the study website, IDI-Study, and with close tuition from our subject specialist tutors, you will gain confidence in your aesthetic, design and commercial judgement. Over the three levels of the BA (Hons) Illustration course you will complete a number of modules that will enable you to:
- Develop the fundamental skills and techniques you will require to become a professional working in the contemporary industry
- Think creatively to solve aesthetic problems in a professional and efficient manner, including idea generation and presenting visual solutions to clients
- Gain a broad based understanding of illustration by working on projects in the related field of graphic design
- Develop the skills and knowledge required to work independently and to promote your design work in the illustration marketplace
Studying Illustration online with IDI
All work on the BA (Hons) Illustration course will take place online with no real time lectures or exams. You will work at times that suit you and submit your work for assessment on the study website, IDI-Study, to strict semester deadlines. You will have your own online studio within IDI-Study where you will engage asynchronously with your tutor to ask questions and receive guidance and feedback. On IDI-Study you will also have access to a range of high quality resources and to the forums, where you will be encouraged to take part in discussions with your peers on the Illustration course.
We believe that students studying online are reliant on a greater level of support than students at attendance based institutions. If you encounter any difficulties at any point during your studies, you will be able to contact the IDI Student Support team from 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, or if you need help with any technical aspect of your studies, our Technical Support team will be on hand and ready to help you at the same time.
BA (Hons) Illustration Entry Requirements
For UK applicants, we require either 96 UCAS points from GCE A Levels (or equivalent), including art related subjects, and English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above (grade C and D or above if prior to 2015), or a relevant level of equivalent skills and experience.
You will normally have completed either a pre-degree course in visual arts, which may be a Foundation or equivalent course leading to a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or equivalent international qualification.
All applicants from non-majority English speaking countries need to provide proof of English language proficiency. One of the following qualifications (or equivalent) is required:
- GSCE English Language grade A-C
- IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band)
