This course is the second of two precalculus courses from the University of Padova, providing you with the advanced mathematical skills required to complete the first course in calculus.
You’ll get to grips with more challenging precalculus topics: plane and solid geometry; logarithms and exponentials; equalities and inequalities; and trigonometric functions and identities.
By the end of this course, you’ll have gained the skills to support further mathematical studies.

- Solve problems using properties of the basic transcendental functions: exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric.
- Calculate expressions involving transcendental functions.
- Solve equalities and inequalities in terms of transcendental functions.
- Calculate areas and volumes of basic geometric plane figures and spatial solids.
- Apply elements of mathematical reasoning and proofs.
- Compare exponentials and logarithms.
- Model basic compound interest.
Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to brush up on their basic mathematical skills, particularly students in the last year of high school, or at the beginning of undergraduate studies, who intend to take the first course in calculus.
Ideally, you’ll have already taken the first course - Precalculus: the Mathematics of Numbers, Functions and Equations or be familiar with the topics covered in it, and have a basic knowledge of high school mathematics.
Who will you learn with?
I am a professor of mathematics at the University of Lyon. In previous lives, I have held tenured positions at the University of British Columbia and the University of Montreal.
I am a professor of mathematical analysis at the University of Padova. Among my interests: magic, tango, photography, innovative teaching, technology and e-learning.
I am a professor of algebra at the University of Padova and I teach at the science and engineering faculties. I like very much math and classical music.
I am a Postdoc researcher at Inria Paris. My research field is mainly sub-Riemannian geometry. Among my interests: photography, swimming and science communication.
I'm a mathematician expert in the fields of homological algebra and applied category theory.
I'm also interested in photography, bike and powerlifting.
