Online LLM in US Law

Best Online LLM Programs in US Law 2017

US Law

An LLM, or Master of Laws, typically takes one year to complete. The degree itself is an indication of advanced studies in a legal specialty, but it is not enough to practice law in most cases. Professionals usually pursue this degree to augment their Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

What is an online LLM in US Law? This degree program typically provides an in-depth look at the laws and practices of the United States’ legal system. Common course topics include legal research and writing, constitutional law, civil procedure and professional ethics and responsibility. Some schools offer specializations such as law practice technology, logistics, transportation and business law. Students may have the choice of elective courses such as immigration law, employment law, international business transactions, and adjudication and judicial review.

Many legal firms prefer to hire individuals with an LLM because the degree indicates an understanding of law beyond the generalities of a normal law degree. The advanced, specialized training of this degree often makes graduates more competitive in the job market and can lead to higher salaries.

The cost of an LLM in US Law may vary depending on the institution of choice, type of instruction and required course materials. Many scholars may choose to cut costs with partial or fully online programs, as well as digital course materials.

With an online LLM in US Law, graduates are often prepared to enter the legal job market with better prospects. The degree allows students to seek employment as lawyers in legal firms specializing in a variety of aspects of US law. Students can find employment with consulting firms, as legal counsel within a corporation or in a government organization.

Are you ready to pursue your dreams of being a lawyer? Increase your competitive edge in the job market with a LLM in US Law. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.

All students need is a computer, an Internet connection, and the desire to advance in their careers with a U.S. law degree. Program Courses: Coastal Law’s J.D. program is accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and the online U.S. Law LL.M. program has the acquiescence of the ABA. The 26 credit hour program typically takes one year to complete and provides a comprehensive overview of U.S. law, enhancing the ability of students to meet the academic qualifications required to take a U.S. bar exam. The courses and the program are designed, specifically, for foreign-educated attorneys and take into consideration that most of the U.S. Law LL.M. students are not native English speakers. The program covers core academic subjects commonly tested on U.S. bar exams, including Constitutional Law; Civil Procedure; Evidence; Contracts and Sales; Criminal Law and Procedure; Real Property; Professional Responsibility; Business Organizations; Torts; Wills, Trusts and Successions; and Legal Analysis, Reasoning and Communication. Coastal Law’s U.S. Law LL.M. curriculum meets the requirements for both the California and Washington State Bar exams. Additionally, students may take two credit hours of electives from our online LL.M. Program in Logistics and Transportation. These electives include courses in International Business Transactions, Immigration Law, Customs Law, etc. There are three semesters each year in the U.S. Law LL.M. program, Fall, Spring and Summer. Students may begin the program in any of these three semesters. Coastal Law accepts applications to the U.S. Law LL.M. program on a rolling basis. Program Faculty Members: The faculty of the U.S. Law LL.M. program consists of a distinguished group of law professors from Coastal Law and other ABA accredited law schools. Our professors enjoy interacting with their students and sharing their experience and knowledge of U.S. Law. All of our U.S. Law LL.M. professors have completed training in online teaching and have substantial experience teaching in an online setting. Tuition: Tuition for the program is $765 per credit hour for a total cost of $19,890. Tuition for non-degree seeking students is $1,300 per credit hour. This is a fraction of the cost of other LL.M. programs in the U.S. Students can pay for the program as they go along each semester. Reading materials are included in the cost of tuition and there are no additional student fees or costs. Admissions Qualifications: To qualify for admission to the U.S. Law LL.M. program, applicants must have obtained their first degree in law from a country outside of the U.S. Admission to the program is based upon a number of factors, including academic performance, work experience, and the applicant’s personal statement. Applicants should apply through the Apply Online page of Coastal Law’s LLM website. Three items are needed for Coastal Law to review an application: the electronic application (with a personal statement and resume attached to it), an official transcript submitted for evaluation to a California Bar-approved evaluation service (such as A2Z Evaluations) and, with some exceptions, a TOEFL or IELTS score. Advocacy Studies The Master of Laws (LL.M.) In Advocacy at MC Law In the modern legal market, young attorneys are given few, if any, opportunities to develop the advanced advocacy skills so critical to effective client representation. In Advocacy at MC Law. A hands on, practice based course of study, the Advocacy LL.M. integrates trial and appellate advocacy externships at top State and Federal agencies. Students can focus on developing their knowledge and skills in civil or criminal advocacy at the trial and/or appellate level. Perfect for the practicing attorney, students have five years to complete the degree, a variety of scheduling options and all classes also count towards CLE credit. Assisting these professors will be a team of the most experienced and respected jurists and advocates in the South. Admission Requirements Applicants must have completed or be scheduled to complete their J.D. degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school by the time they begin the LL.M. Program. Applicants must be eligible for or have been admitted to practice before the highest court in a U.S. state following a bar examination. Applicants must possess the professional and personal integrity associated with the practice of law in the United States. Applicants must have a proven record of academic success. Graduation Requirements 24 credits completed from the list of classes under the program within five years of beginning the program Cumulative 2.0 grade point average Costs and Scholarships MC Law is committed to providing a high quality but affordable legal education, and Jackson is one of the more cost-friendly capitals in the United States. Even so, an LL.M. degree can be a substantial financial commitment and potential candidates will be requested to demonstrate the ability to finance their entire course of study. Candidates who are U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents may apply for financial aid loans, and international candidates are encouraged to contact the MC Law Financial Aid Office and LL.M. Programs Office to discuss possible funding opportunities. LL.M. students at MC Law enjoy the exact same low per credit tuition rate as our incoming J.D. students. For academic year 2015/16, the tuition rate is $1068 per credit hour. Total costs will vary based on the number of credits (12-36) and length (1-4 semesters) of your specific academic plan. Potential candidates are encouraged to contact the LL.M. Programs Office at LLM@mc.edu to learn more about available scholarship opportunities.
